Get to know: David McCarthy

In the latest series of our ‘meet the team’ blogs, we caught up with new (ish) team member Dave McCarthy to hear more about his role and what life is like at Black & White Bridging…

How long have you been at Black & White Bridging and what is your role?

Relationship Manager – 3 months in and I’m absolutely loving it.

How did you first get into property lending?

I have been in Financial Services since I graduated in 2005. I worked in the big smoke for 3 years for a FTSE 250 insurer and when I came back to the Midlands in 2009, I started my journey as a Mortgage Broker.

What is the best thing about your role, and why?

Meeting new people, building existing relationships and getting a deal over the line from start to finish – it’s a great feeling.

What motivates you?

My family provide the personal motivation and providing a quality service to my brokers drives me professionally. I enjoy the challenge of trying to reach my targets and the financial reward of the industry is another big factor and why I have been doing it for so long.

If you weren’t Relationship Manager at Black & White Bridging, what would you like to be?

I always wanted to be a fireman when I was younger and always enjoyed working in hospitality through university. So, either a Fireman or Restaurant owner. That said, the work life balance for both would be a challenge so I’m very happy to be doing what I am doing.

What separates Black & White Bridging from other lenders?

We like to structure a deal and exhaust all avenues with the broker. We are not tied up with long criteria lists and impossible to understand product guides and pricing. As the strapline says – architects of truly transparent lending with no grey areas. On top of that, my lending team are the best I have worked with, they go above and beyond.

When you’re not at work, what are you most likely to be doing?

Playing a round of Golf at West Midlands golf club on Saturday. I love hacking up the course and going for a nice walk. I also love going to the cricket at Edgbaston and playing poker with friends. Lastly, I’ve managed to build a small pub in my back garden, so I do enjoy spending time in there with friends and family.

What are three things you can’t live without?

The obvious answer is the family but let’s assume that’s a given. Any chocolate from the Cadbury cannon. Football. Brewdog’s Hazy Jane ale.

Who are three people you’d most like to have dinner with and why?

Craig Charles – I’m a massive Red Dwarf fan and he can provide the soundtrack to the evening.

Stephen Fry – He’s got to be high on most people’s list. It wouldn’t be a dull party.

Erling Haaland – My five and eight-year-old boys are massive fans, so I would take them along too.
